Inspiration Board for June: Beauty, Style, and Food

It is time for the new Inspiration Board. Seeing that the month of June is sneaking up on us next week, this is perfect timing to make a new to do list, get motivated, and try out new trends or activities. This month, I am putting a lot of focus on self improvement as I am looking into taking photography classes, learning to rollerblade, and finding a healthy balance between work and school. For now, let’s dive into some June inspiration.

Fashion

#1. Off the shoulder: I have been spotting this look while looking to expand my summer wardrobe. This is a very elegant look with a little bit of flirtation and skin. I have yet to find the one I like but Zara and H&M are a great start.

#2. Active wear: since Toronto is treating us with sunny days, I have made a promise to myself to make time for long, meditative walks in the park as well as biking. This is a therapeutic activity that lets you clear the mind from all the commotion. I am also planning a trip to Scarborough Bluffs to make room for hiking. Finding the right active wear is key which is why I stocked up on a pair of shorts and shirts.

Food

#3. Seeds: although I enjoy blaming my sweet-tooth, I have made an effort to convert to healthier snacks that have the sweetness element and a health benefit. My recent favourite is using flax, chia, and pumpkin seeds to top of simple meals.

#4. Water: you cannot underestimate the benefits of drinking lots of water. Hydration cleanses the inside and outside. I have realized that I do not drink nearly enough water each day which is why I tend to get tired easily. Now that I have made a conscious effort to drink water regularly, I am doing a lot better. I challenge you to do the same 🙂

Beauty

#5. Face masks: YES! I live for The Face Shop facial masks. Believe me, these $1-4 masks are a nice way to pamper yourself. Rochelle has written a post earlier about facial masks in general and although they may be short term skin fixes, they are refreshing nevertheless. I am looking to try the ones they sell for the under eye area and the lips and feet.

Now its your turn? Let me know:

What are you looking to try this month? I am looking forward to being inspired by you!

March Inspiration Board and Must Haves

Welcome to the month of March! I can almost spot spring right around the corner. From longer days to warmer temperatures, it feels like I have so much more time and motivation to experiment with new products this month. I have beauty, fashion, and lifestyle pinned on the board for this month so let’s dig in. Make sure to let us know what you want to try out this month.

Fashion and Beauty

◊ Working out: when I think of heading to the gym, I usually put on oldest pair of shorts and tops. However, ever since I made use of the $25 Kate Hudson Fabletics outfit coupon, I have been drawn to putting more thought into my gym attire. I have noticed it increases my drive to exercise.

◊ Kate Spade wanna be: I have an admiration for Kate Spade purses despite not owning one myself. The main reason is because I like a structured purses with many compartments being the neat freak that I am. My mission this month is to find a Kate Spade wanna be purse on a budget.

Beauty

◊ Burt’s Bees: I am a big fan of the Burt’s Bees lip balms; however, when I found out about their lip collection I was a little hesitant to give it a try. This month I want to stock up on some Burt’s Bees products like creams to test the hype.

◊ Colour blocking: I was always fascinated by green or pink concealers and frankly too nervous to experiment with those (the idea of turning into Shrek in the morning was not appealing). I have learned that these bright colours form a contrast against your skin that actually works better than a nude concealer itself. Let’s give it a try.

Lifestyle

◊ Short term memory: I am a multi-tasker which has its ups and downs. Although I think I’m saving time by doing many chores at once, the attention I am able to dedicate to each task actually diminishes and so does the quality of my work. This makes me more forgetful in the long run. Mission for March is to slow down and be more attentive to individual tasks.

◊ Lily Inspiration: iiSuperwomanii has been one of my favourite YouTubers of all time. Her success is mesmerizing. For the month of March, when you are feeling down, I recommend you give her videos a watch.

I want to hear your thoughts:

What goals have you set for March?

Inspiration Board for February

New month rings in new adventures. Over the past few weeks, I have been busy tracking the latest trends and pinning new items I want to try in February starting with beauty and fashion to interesting reads, home decor, and events. Here is a little sneak peek into what has inspired me for the month of February.

Beauty

◊ Oils – Canada is not very merciful when it comes to winters. As a result of the cold, dry air, my hair and skin are in serious need of extra moisture. I am excited to use coconut oil for some face and hair masks.

◊ Facial Massage – I am one of those people that just smacks cream on her face, puts a checkmark next to: moisturize skin daily and head out the door. This time around, I’m looking forward to not only spending more time massaging the product into my face better but to use this roller for an added cooling effect to the skin.

◊ Gold finish – Although I have a tendency to reach for my go to makeup items in the morning, I will be exchanging my favorites with a new stock. I can’t wait to use soft pinks and golden shades for the eyes. These makeup looks is what I am aiming for.

Food and Drinks

◊ Coffee or latte – Recently I tried the vanilla mocha at Starbucks while out with friends and aside from getting all gittery from my inexperience drinking caffeinated drinks, I have found a new craving. Being a student though, I am making an effort to recreate the above drink for those non-busy mornings. Wish me luck!

◊ FOOD – Cooking for myself can sometimes become dull because of busy schedules and expensive food prices. However, I will be using these images as inspiration to spice up my go to meals. Mashed potatoes no longer need to be served solo. Adding some fruits and veggies with beef as a side has a much better and filling presentation.

Lifestyle and Home Decor

◊ Cold air – Once again, life in Canada requires that one own heavy duty jackets, boots, hats, and mittens at all times. Looking chic is just no longer a priority which is why I will be trying out these hand warmers from now on. Can’t wait to see if they are effective.

◊ Blankets – My room is always experiencing changes in terms of decor. Currently, I am looking to invest into a quality blanket for my bed. Not only is it a way to dress up a space, but they are also perfect for curling up during those rainy or cold days.

◊ Winterlicious – Rochelle and I love Winterlicious. There is nothing like amazing food coming at fixed, discounted prices. We have made a list of our top 5 locations and can’t wait to share our experiences with you. Many reviews are coming your way.

Inspiration Board for January

January 2016 officially welcomes us to the world of new experiences, trends, and adventures. The Inspiration Board serves the purpose of a To-Do list where I outline some goals I wish to accomplish for the month. The Inspiration Board features categories such as food and drinks, lifestyle, fashion, beauty, events, and news, a little bit of everything to appeal to a wide variety of interests that our readers hold. I hope you create one yourself to better organize your thoughts.

General

Beets Red – Red lips are most common during the holiday and winter months. However, I will be switching up my look with a more pinkish red in order to add some variety to this trend.

Matchy matchy – I am all about mixing textures, colours, especially with my jewelry. However, I want to branch out and incorporate more classic pieces and jewelry sets such as this pearl one.

♥ Getaway – I am inspired to begin planning a trip with Rochelle this summer. It will be a time to detox from the busyness that is school and work. What destinations do you recommend?

Health and Literature

Aroma Therapy – After receiving some home fragrance oil, I have officially replaced candles with this new find, adding some to my linens and towels. My bedroom is filled with the aroma of Jasmine (a relaxing atmosphere).

Winter Runs – Although this is an ambitious goal, I have decided that I will challenge myself to a 3k run twice a week this winter… outside. Despite the cold Canada weather, I am determined!

New Read – I received the book “Into the Wild” for Christmas and my goal is to watch the film interpretation thereafter. An interesting  ritual I want to start is watching movie adaptations after finishing new reads.

Lifestyle

♥ To Do List – I have decided to maximize my time by creating a daily itinerary and plan for the day instead of a simple to do list. This form of structure is more grounded and practical.

Dream Big – Using my Q&A journal has really helped me better reflect on day to day occurrences but I will be taking a step further and creating goals for each month even if they are as simple as making room for naps.

Inspiration Board for December

Its this time again for the Lipstick Trilogy Inspiration Board. November proved to be a very unadventurous month for me as I did not pay attention to the resent trends in fashion and makeup, events, and lifestyle updates. However, with holiday season, this inspiration board for December is especially festive and full. I hope you find some of the items/activities on this bucket list as inspiration as well. Share with us what you are looking forward to in December.

General

♥ Ballet – this winter, Rochelle and I as well as our close friend Vanessa will be dressing up to see the Nutcracker performed by the National Ballet of Canada. Not only a great girls night idea but this is also a way to get into the holiday spirit. This will be my first time watching the ballet rather than performing.

♥ Oils – my hair has been feeling very dry with the onset of cold weather which is why I want to restore some moisture, shine, and strength into it by using essential oils like coconut or avocado oil. Currently, I am in search of effective home remedies. Do you have any recommendations?

Fashion

♥ Sweater dress – I have been spotting tight fitting sweater dresses this season and I think I will definitely be giving these a try. This is a practical, comfortable yet chic and instant outfit which is ideal for the holidays. At least I will be stepping out of my comfort zone by ditching the pants.

♥ Sweaters – Being a firm believer that you can never have too many sweaters in Canada, I will definitely be stocking up on some this winter. The style I am looking for are heavy knits as well as the unforgettable – ugly Christmas sweater.

Food

♥ Popcorn – DIY popcorn flavours is what I am all about. Out goes the classic buttered popcorn as I will be experimenting with new ingredients by adding: cinnamon, melted chocolate, trail mix, and dried fruits in order to determine my favourite combination. Currently, at Cineplex theaters in particular, I am liking the mix of ketchup and cheese powders (it tastes a little bit like pizza).

Drinks – It is time that I stepped up my recipe game when it comes to alcoholic beverages. I am determined to discover new ways of spicing up old recipes for the holidays whether it be adding finishing touches like lime or creating a new mix.

What are you looking forward to in December?

Inspiration Board for October

October has rolled around very unexpectedly and so did the rainy fall weather and windy mornings. Fall, however, is my favourite time of the month which is why this month’s inspiration board was such a pleasure to create. Although this is a typical movie scene, there is nothing like sitting next to a window with your hot tea and a blanket, starring outside as its pouring rain. As for now, here is my take on some fashion trends, current events, makeup tricks, and food recipes.

Food and Makeup

♥ With Halloween right around the corner, I have decided to spice up this year’s festivities by creating these delicious drinks. I will be purchasing some orange soda and vanilla ice cream to recreate the seasonal colours. It looks like a fun drink to make and our sweet-tooth will not be disappointed.

♥ Fall is all about playing up the darker eye shadows. My personal favourites are maroons and golds. Although I stand by my natural and simple look, I will be playing up my eyes. Its a bold statement, have fun experimenting with dark lips or eye palettes.

Style

♥ When out shopping, my absolute favourite look is the layering of blouses and sweaters. This combination is a mixture of put together, chic, and the obvious one– warm. Although ten years ago this would of been a fashion faux pas for me, recently, I have been becoming appreciative of this trend.

♥ The mid-length coats displayed in this collage are a guilty pleasure of mine. I have yet to find the right one but I am determined to continue on my search for this retro item. Just like seen with the trench coat, I seem to lack very classic pieces in my wardrobe.

Current Events

♥ I am a big believer in taking long walks in order to destress and now there is a study to approve my life hack. There is nothing like embracing the warm fall weather, breathing in fresh air in order to clear your mind. Get away from the busy city and enjoy the silence.

♥ Chatelaine has written about the TED talks which I tend to watch obsessively on Youtube. Something which sparked interest was the idea that a lot of the amazing inventions created came as a result of necessity. We tend to spend a lot of time wondering how in a world which is so abundant with ideas can we possibly contribute. However, all it takes is finding a challenge and solving it. I bet waking up late is what led to the invention– the alarm clock.

What inspired you in the month of October?

Inspiration Board for August

The month of August is right around the corner (literally) which means its time for another Inspiration Board. This month I will be trying out all sorts of new trends, fighting my fears, and discovering a whole new community. Join me on my adventure of unraveling epic, new things.

Beauty and Food

Blackheads- I have been tempted to try out Face Shop’s blackhead removal strips. The strip is black so I can’t wait to see what kind of gunk my nose region has been hoarding.

Breakfast- Despite being a proud foodie, I tend to fall into a routine of same old toast, fruits, and tea breakfast (classy but boring). This month the goal is to incorporate my home grown vegetables into my meals. For starters let’s do a tomato and basil omlette.

Fashion

Plaid not uniform-  I have always stayed away from plaid prints because they are a constant reminder of those uniform years. However, now I see it in a different light. Its a classy, polished look that can be lowered a notch to fit a relaxed flannel and jeans outfit.

Chambray- Would you believe me if I told you that I have never owned a chambray shirt. Yes its true and I have been told that I have missed out on years of comfort. Let’s grab our shopping bags and buy me a chambray top because it sure seems like an easy piece to pair.

Lifestyle

Portrayal of women-  Recently, I read an article from Chatelaine magazine, “Sex just isn’t selling” which caused me to reflect and ponder about the changes this decade faces. Taking women as a case study, the overly-sexualized standards for portraying a woman are now being changed as we are learning to embrace real woman with all their imperfections as well as perfections. My future read will include, “Bad Feminist” as well as “Barbara the Slut.”

Phone freedom- This week our Summer Bucket List challenge was to unplug. After reading that Yahoo’s CEO checks her smartphone 150 times a day (whoaaaa!?!!) I decided to cut back since the last thing I need is to feel permanently glued to my phone.

Inspiration Board for July

Hello there,

Rochelle and I are starting a monthly series called, “Inspiration Board.” At the start of every month, we will be using a memo board to compile photos and articles which have sparked interest. Let’s try something new together!

This is a full compilation of our memo board

Fashion

  • Crochet- is no longer reserved just for serviettes, it is making a grand appearance in summer fashion collections. Its intricate detail is an instant statement piece.
  • Beads- jumping onto the bandwagon, we will be spicing up our outfits with beaded and embroidered pieces. The rustic, folk resemblance is very  fresh and appealing.

A closer look at the food and health category

  Food and Health

  • Avocado- I am not a fan of avocados and am good at avoiding them. Due to their high potassium and fiber contents, I will be incorporating them into my meals. If you have some suggestions, leave a recipe in the comments.
  • Smottie- I have been on a health kick, drinking homemade smoothies every evening. Now I will be adding spinach leaves and the above toppings for extra health benefits.
  • Summer Bucket List- is a must for a fulfilling summer experience. From these articles, we will be adding the Ripley’s Aquarium and hiking to our lists (hint, hint).

A closer look at the hair and beauty category

 Beauty and Hair

  • Half bun- with shorter hair, my styling ideas are starting to dwindle. This effortless half bun is a unique spin on a classic ballerina bun and a trend I am willing to try.
  • Light weight makeup- I will be experimenting with a minimal/simplistic makeup look with sun kissed cheeks (not rosy), lightly filled browns, and bronzer as eye shadow.
  • Dry shampoo- I started using the Moroccanoil shampoo/conditioner to recover the damage done by cold winter months. Since hair gets oilier faster in the summer, I will be giving the Moroccanoil dry shampoo a chance to prevent frequent hair washes.

We would love to hear from you, what has inspired you this month? Let us know in the comments. You can also keep in touch with out adventures via Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram @lipstick_trilogy.
