It’s Oscar season again so as a surprise to you, our readers, I’d like to provide another movie review! Two movie reviews in one week? Whaaat?! No but seriously, Oscar season means that there’s so many more epic movies coming out during the winter season. One of my absolute (and surprising) favourites this year was The Big Short. Surprising because I really dislike economics and this movie contained a lot of econ terminology. However, it’s such a fun ride you barely notice the fact that you learn something!
There’s a star studded cast list and they all do justice to their roles. Brad Pitt, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei, Christian Bale, along with guest stars like Selena Gomez, Karen Gillan, Margot Robbie etc. all play big roles in making this film a success. The film snagged an Achievement in Directing, Best Motion Picture, Adapted Screenplay and Film Editing nominations at the Oscars. It could have also done with an Actor nomination. Christian Bale shone throughout the film. He has already shown off his prowess as the Dark Knight but in this movie, playing a doctor with a glass eye with a passion for metal, he is simply incredible.
LT Ratings: Overall rating: 9.5/10 | Comedy: 9/10 | Cinematography: 10/10 | Acting: 10/10 | Must watch/ Average/ Pass: Must watch!
This funny, bizarre and touching movie is about the underdogs taking on the big bad banks; the people who ultimately make millions and billions off of the crash of the economy. But you still root for them! It is fabulously cast, hilarious from start to finish with a good dosage of reality. The documentary-like scenes of The Big Short really drives in the point that this film is based on a true story where millions lost their houses, livelihoods, pensions and savings.
I highly recommend watching this film. If you already have we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! Any film recommendations? Let us know!
Until next time,
