The way I wake up in the mornings usually predetermines my mood for the day. In other words, walking up early naturally will leave me in a blissful state versus a rude awakening by my alarm clock. Over the years, I have made my mornings productive and relaxing simply by waking up early the right way. When you snooze past all your ten alarms, consider this guide.
Waking up early is a chore but if you have an important event to attend or just want to make the most of your day, here are some error proof tips.
1. Smart alarm: Set your alarms 10 or 15 min. apart. This way when you attempt to snooze the first one, you will have registered that this is your time to start waking up. When the second alarm rolls around, it can signal physically getting out of bed instead of lounging around.
2. Travel the distance: If you use your phone as an alarm, try placing it an arms length away from the bed meaning that to snooze or turn off the alarm, will require reaching a far distance thus waking you up in the process. This prevents you from reaching for your phone while still half a sleep or out of habit.
3. Coffee: Now for those extremely rare yet important events a tip I learned is to leave a small cup of coffee next to your bed side. When you hear the alarm, reach for the cup and take only a few sips. The coffee will be cold but in no time, your brain will be up and running and falling back asleep will become impossible. If you don’t prefer coffee, replace it with water.
4. No phones: In the past, reaching for my phone to check my social media would wake me up since the bright screen was doing the trick. Although it worked, I prefer to leave the first little bit of my morning tech free. What has worked is thinking consistently about the important event I have coming up the night before. This ends up being the first thing on my mind when I wake and thus I don’t have the urge to snooze my alarm.
