Laughter is the Best Medicine?

I am a big fan of comedy shows and I must admit to binge watching them on Netflix when I’m feeling down (Kevin Hart’s shows are my favorite). Sometimes, laughter just ends up being the best medicine. This time around, I left the comforts of my home and sought out a comedy show for a relaxing night and of course to put me in better spirits. Feeling down too, give comedy shows a try.

To quench my thirst for comedy shows, I attended Second City’s– “The Best of Second City” and “How to Kill a Comedian.” Let’s see if they were successful.

“The Best of Second City” left me with rock hard abs from the two hours of non stop laughter (which I guess cannot excuse me eating french fries with chicken fingers). As the title suggests, this show is a collection of the best material collected over the 50 years. This was my first Second City show and I was hooked. The scenes in the show were short and you definitely didn’t have time to get tied up or bored of a scene if it wasn’t your cup of tea (or rather, pint of beer). The punchlines were on point and you don’t even need a bottle of beer to get you going.

LT Ratings: Overall rating: 10/10 | Witty: 8/10 | Comedy: 8.5/10 | Must Watch/Average/Pass: Must Watch!

“How to Kill a Comedian” was a satire which is bound to test your views. A unique twist put on by the comedians was a catchy tune as a warning of what’s about to go down. The show had a lot of audience involvement which either puts you in a nail biting situation or like myself, you sit back and enjoy the raw and unpolished side of the comedian. However, my expectations were lowered because of the stretched out scenes which seemed to drag on as if to fill the 2h time slot. I did find myself laughing the hardest at the end of the show when the comedians were giving the audience a sneak peek of the material they were experimenting with for future shows.

LT Ratings: Overall rating: 6.5/10 | Witty: 6/10 | Comedy: 6/10 | Must Watch/Average/Pass: Average
